If you’re into it, I have an article about Margaret Atwood’s The Handmaid’s Tale up at io9.com Check it out.
Nice detective work. These remind me a lot of the hidden puzzles in Gene Wolfe’s books.
I remember reading The Handmaid’s Tale years ago. I consider myself a social and political conservative, but I wasn’t as bothered by its obvious agenda as I was by the indeterminate, cliffhanger, “Lady or the Tiger” ending. Was Offred’s lover an agent of the ruling junta? Did she escape to Canada? We’ll never know. Whatever the author’s point of view, I believe readers deserve some kind of resolution. I felt gypped.
