So you want to see something cool?

A bunch the series regulars — Holden, Avasarala, Naomi, Amos, Alex — are in here, and (if you really pay attention) the first glimpse of the Rocinante in all her glory.

So. What did you think?

  1. Man, I loved it .. Looking forward to seeing it in it’s fully glory… Meanwhile, I shall re-read the series in anticipation.

  2. Thrilled to see a trailer!
Looks like this might focus a bit more on the culture of the Earth / Belter war than on the arrival of the protomolecule… and I’m fine with that.

    • Hard to tell from just a trailer. After Ascension, SyFy’s trailers should be taken with a huge grain of salt as to actually revealing the plot of a series. The protomolecule will certainly be there though. The trailer included the scene from the prologue of Leviathan Wakes where Julie Mao first sees the protomolecule in the engine room.

  3. Wow! I really cannot wait for this!

  4. Looks amazing! I can’t wait.

  5. Killer! So excited to see Jared Harris, a personal favorite. Do you guys have a composer on board yet?

  6. Protomolecule? Cant wait to see

  7. Am sooo looking forward to this. Might just have to re-listen to the Audio books again.

  8. loved it. Looks stellar

  9. Excited, guys!

  10. oh wow! can’t wait! this is gonna be awesome!

just finished Cibola Burn… I want to get back in the Rocie!!

  11. Awesome. Reminds me a lot of B5 and BSG. It has that cheap get things working kind of vibe that feels grimy. Looks very slick.

  12. So just curious, do we see the Roci at 1:25 in the trailer or is that a bigger ship?

  13. Looks awesome, Daniel, so much I had to blog about it, gushing like a little girl.

I was really afraid Syfy might turn it into “Sharknado IN SPACE” if left unattended, so I’m really relieved that you and Ty are involved in production.

Very much looking forward to it!

  14. in a word, awesome!

  15. Man, it looks incredible. Can’t wait for more.

  16. expect to watch more trailers! this one focuses on the political situation among the parties, where is the protomolecule? : )

  17. Looks great! Really excited to see it!

Is that music at the end from the show? It’s really lovely.

  18. *hyperventilates*

    Finally, my dreams come true!

  19. Wow *nerdgasm*

Now I really have to read Cibola Burn; it’s been on my shelf for a while now.

  20. The massive hard on I got from watching the trailer is what I’m now typing this message with.

      • Hey, Ty! Just saw the trailer for The Expanse (somehow, inexplicably, this whole thing has flown under my radar until now), so just came by to say, congrats, and it looks downright cool. I’m glad you guys are able to have significant creator control/input into the show, to do justice for your books and generally maintain standards of awesomeness.

  21. Congrats to you guys! I’m super excited. The production quality looks great, and there is so much to get excited about for fans of the books, just in that little trailer. Avasarala is exactly how I pictured her, and I think Thomas Jane looks like a good, maybe too good looking- Miller (I always liked to picture Hugh Laurie in that role, and with more of a Breaking Bad- Pork Pie). I am very excited to see the chemistry of Holden and his crew. Somehow I feel like this is one of the best-kept secrets of 2015, and a few of us are in on it.

  22. Wow awesome! I *think* I already see a couple of minor differences from Leviathan Wakes just in the trailer, and that, guys, is a good sign.

  23. Glad to hear you two are so close to the helm on this. This is clearly going to be a great show, and it has a shot at becoming an important moment in television history.

Please keep the books coming, and pay us fans a visit on the right coast sometime.

… I should have come down to Lexington…

  24. It’s easy to be negative and that was my first inclination upon seeing the cast..just doesn’t seem right though we”ll see after a few episodes. Who’s Jonathan Banks cast as?

  25. How close to the books is the series going to remain? People
who have not read the books might be pissed about
what happens to Thomas Jane’s character (Miller)
    after the first book. LOL

I don’t remember CrisJen having a very big role
in the story until the second book, am I forgetting something?
So I’m sorta surprised (but very very happy)
that Shohreh Agdashloo signed on to play her.
Hoping SyFy is able to keep the profanity of her
    character around.

I thought we’d see more of Chad Coleman (Tyrese from
Walking Dead) in the trailer since he plays the head of OPA, right? Or is that Jonathan
    Banks?

Overall I’m very impressed with the trailer; the production values look very good, better than all of the other scifi SyFy has been showing ( Continuum, Haven, Helix, etc) and that is a Very Good Thing!

    • Avasarala was brought forward in the story to give us a view into the inner planets politics earlier. I think it was the right move.

The trailer was cut from the first 3 episodes of the show. Colonel Johnson doesn’t show up until episode four. That’s the only reason he’s not in it.

      • I was wondering why Col Johnson was not in the trailer. Col. Johnson not showing up until episode 4 sounds about right for the timeline of Leviathan Wakes. I was also wondering about Naomi but now that makes sense also. Moving CrisJen up makes sense because creating a TV series from a book series allows for some things to be done that would have dramatically increased the size of the earlier books. If you think of a book series in a real-life scenario the characters that are introduced later in a book series would have been building their lives during the timeframe we are reading about in the earlier books of the series.

    • So we also know who’s getting whacked next on Walking Dead…

  26. Thanks for the updates! Moe Avarasala is a good thing, IMHO as well. You didn’t answer my question if there will be as much %$@&$!! from her in the show as there is in the books though? ‘Fess up!

  27. Looks awesome! I really hope that the Belter patois makes it in to the show! I love thought that’s gone in to the language. Also, one day I want to be able to purchase a belter dictionary… Just sayin’

  28. Question for you. My wife is a prof at George Brown College in Toronto, and we are wondering what location it’s being being used for. We think we spotted it in the trailer and are guessing the UN. Is that correct?

  29. Is there anything new to report? Also, how much filming do ya’ll have left?

  30. Just noticed that there is no Havelock on the IMDB page for the Expanse show. Is this also an error? Love the Havelock character and was very happy when he came back for Cibola.

  31. Looks awesome.
I was just wondering if you can reveal how its being adapted. Is it one book-per-season or something else?
