New York Comic Con!!!

10.04.16
by Ty Franck

So Daniel and I will be at NYCC this year, doing a number of events. We have a booth signing at the Orbit booth on Saturday starting at 11am. And for those who line up early, we’ll be giving out some small props we stole from the TV show. These are things that actually appeared on the camera and were handled by the actors, so they’re unique collector’s items. They’re first come first served, and supplies are limited, so line […]

Work Process

12.13.12
by Ty Franck

Our good friend Max told me he was building a flow chart of the James Corey writing process.  Now, Max is a smart guy, and a guy with significant technical skills, so I was thinking this could get pretty complicated.  Two writers, working from outline with multiple editing passes?  That could be tough to flowchart out. The one Max sent to me is a bit simplified, and I’m not sure how often we actually make the right choice on the […]

Sword and Laser Interview

06.08.12
by Ty Franck

Tom and Veronica from Sword and Laser interview the two halves of James S.A. Corey for their latest podcast, streamcast, broadcast, whatever you call this new internet media that looks like TV but lives on computers.  It’s the future, man.  Crazy. I look very Metallica in this interview, Daniel looks very Simply Red.  This was not on purpose.

Well, stuff I wrote is.  So that seems pretty cool.  I’m curious why they didn’t use our awesome Dociu cover.

First Caliban’s War review!

It looks like Publisher’s Weekly liked it. I especially like that they are “itching for the third book.”  I guess that means we did it right. Don’t skip to the end or anything, but I came up with the last line of this book, and I think it’s the coolest thing I ever did.  It’s all downhill after this.

Paying Tribute: Starship Troopers

by Ty Franck

I’ve been wanting to do this for a while.  Write a series of book reviews of the books that had the most direct influence on my writing, and on The Expanse series in particular.  Hopefully, this is just the first. Starship Troopers, by Robert Heinlein: Starship Troopers moved onto my nightstand a couple of days ago.  I always have a nightstand book, and it tends to be something I’ve read before.  I’ll read a few pages while my wife does […]

The Sophomore Slump

by Ty Franck

So ‘Caliban’s War’, the second book in The Expanse series, went off to our publisher yesterday.   It’s a massive tome of 170,000 words, and I did a full re-read and edit of it in just two days before sending it off.  So this entire blog post may just be delirium caused by lack of sleep. There’s a lot to like.  I like our new characters and what we put them through.  I still love Holden’s little crew on the Rocinante.  […]

Space stations!

05.24.11
by Ty Franck

io9 has a nifty bunch of videos of possible space habitats.  The habitat in an asteroid video is posted next to a mention of Leviathan Wakes and Greg Bear’s book Eon.  This type of asteroid habitat is very different from the cramped corridors of our much less posh stations in Leviathan Wakes, but it’s what I imagine our Belters working their way up to eventually. Also, getting mentioned in the same breath as Greg Bear doesn’t suck.

Hollywood Moguls Take Note!

Overweight middle aged white guys talking about space ships. The only thing that saves this is that we have the incomparable Carrie Vaughn doing the interview, and she is neither middle aged, nor overweight, nor a guy.
